The Labelers brought their offensive guns to Ibear on .Jim Clancy in game 1, as the Labelers bombed the Destroyers 11-3. Clancy 
gave up 13 hits in the first 6.1 innings and gave up 6 runs to take the loss. Clancy's poor performance wasn’t aided by Don 
Gordon (2 runs in 0.2 innings) or by Scott Bailes (gave up consecutive 5010 home runs to Wade Boggs, Dwight Evans and Chris James 
— the first 3 batters he faced). West Coast pounded out 21 hits and Boggs' run—scoring double in the first inning was the game 
winner. Mike Dunne lasted well, giving up 13 hits over 8.1 innings and striking out 6. He got the win. Evans went 3 for 4 with a 
double and a home run; Ozzie Guillen went 3 for 5 with a double and a triple and scored 3 runs.

Poor fielding and inconsistent relief nearly lost game 2 for the Destroyers. After 5 innings, Delaware held a comfortable 5-0 lead 
and Bill Long had thrown perfect ball (15 up, 15 down). Three consecutive singles, followed by two consecutive errors by Paul 
Molitor and Long, allowed 3 runs to score, cutting the Destroyers' lead to 2. David Cone relieved Long in the 7th, but 'did no 
better, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits and giving the Labelers a 6-5 lead. Delaware tied it up off Dave Martinez's triple in the 7th 
and scored the winner in the 8th off Goose Gossage, as Mike Schmidt singled home Jim Rice. Jose Nunez got the win, striking out 2 
in 1 inning, and Steve Bedrosian saved the game, striking out 1. B.J. Surhoff went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI for the Labelers; Martinez 
was a perfect 3 for 3 with a double and a triple; and Mike Schmidt was 4 for 5 with a homerun and 3 RBI for the Destroyers.

With two outs in the top of the 4th inning the Delaware Destroyers showed why they led the league in hitting. They connected on 
four straight singles and a double to score 5 runs. The Labelers made a game of it in the bottom of the 7th cutting the lead to 
two. For the game, Bob Forsch got the win and also drove in 2 runs with a 2-3 night at the plate. Dave LaPoint started and took 
the loss for West Coast. B.J. Surhoff led all hitters with a perfect night as the Labelers lost despite out—hitting the 
Destroyers 15—10.

Tom Candiotti shut down the potent Delaware attack, going the distance with a 5 hitter. The Labelers again ripped ace Jim Clancy 
with the big blow a 5 run third inning. Barry Bonds and Wade Boggs each collected 2 hits to pace the Labelers to victory. The 
Destroyers biggest threat came in the 6th when they got 3 of their hits, but left two men stranded.

The Labelers, desperately needing another home win before going back to Fenway, thought they got a big break in the second inning. 
Ron Guidry injured himself and had to leave the game. Manny Trillo managed to drive in Surhoff and it was l-O WCL. Starter Rich 
Dotson cruised along until the top of the 7th when Harold Baines singled in Jim Rice. Schmidt followed by driving in Milt Thompson 
and Paul Molitor's single scored Baines. Greg Gross hit a pinch—hit SF to score Dave Concepcion in the bottom half. In the 8th, 
Wade Boggs hit a high fly to Thompson who lost it in the lights allowing it to fall in for a double. Surhoff stepped up and drove 
in Boggs to tie the game with 2 outs. Greg Brock followed with a single which Dave Martinez hobbled, putting runners on 2nd and 
3rd. Concepcion draws a walk to load the bases, but Lee Smith fans Trillo to end the inning. In the 10th, Martinez hit a leadoff 
single and went to 2b on a sacrifice. Bo Diaz followed with an infield single, putting runners on the corners. Donnie Hill squeezed 
in Martinez and Thompson singled home Diaz for some insurance. Chuck Crim too the loss, Don Gordon, the 8th Destroyer pitcher got 
the win.

With their backs to the wall, West Coast jumped out with 3 straight singles in the first inning to take a 2-O lead. In the 4th, DLD 
starting hurler Bill Long got hurt and have to leave, shades of Guidry in game 5. Three rbi singles by Schmidt, Mattingly and 
Molitor put DLD ahead to stay in the 6th. Hill hit a PH triple that drove in Spike Owen and Bo Diaz for insurance runs in the 7th. 
David Cone pitched through the 6th inning and collected the win. Labeler ace Mike Dunne gave up 3 unearned runs but was tagged with 
the loss.
